Our Students

We believe in offering our students a fundamentally different experience as they learn.

The relationship we seek with our students is one of expert and apprentice. We want our students to become the experts and move their chosen field of study forward.

We want to teach students how to be creative thinking leaders.

Student Expectations

QuantumCamp LLC is the best place for young adults to learn science. As such we expect the best behavior from our students. We equip our labs and courses with the most sophisticated materials and lectures available. In fact some of our courses meet or exceed the levels found at many colleges throughout the world. We do not condone any kind of behavior that detracts from the kind of sophistication that each of our students deserve. What we, our parents, and our students expect is the absolute best from each other, nothing less.

Tardiness: Students are expected to be in class and ready to participate at the stated start time for each class.  A phone call will be made to parents when students are not in class at this time.  A parent-teacher conference will be scheduled after two tardies for a given course.

Participation: Students are expected to be alert and participate in class. Students are expected to treat instructors and each other in a courteous, focused manner, without distraction.  Instructors will contact the parent if a student fails to participate, or engages in distracting or rude behavior in class.

Dress Code for Lab Classes: Students taking lab classes are expected to wear long pants (no shorts), close-toed shoes and have long hair tied back.  Clothing should be fitted and not baggy.

QuantumCamp LLC reserves the right to expel any student from any course who is deemed to be misusing equipment or compromising the safety and quality of experience of others.

Interactive learning:

Students learn concepts in an interactive way that engages as much of their brain as possible. Even our lecture courses implement rich Socratic dialogue and strong team work.

Going beyond the ordinary:

Students are expected to research at home and think outside of the box. We encourage our students to develop better ways to do things and better ways to understand things. Their learning is not just one way.

Creating their own book:

Students are expected to write their own book for each course, documenting their journey through the different experiments and calculations.

Books should specifically contain:
  • descriptions of experiments
  • data they took from the experiments
  • interpretation of the data
  • reflection on the experiment
  • concepts learned from the experiment
  • table of contents and page numbers!

Assistantships

QuantumCamp is much more than a place to learn. QuantumCamp is a place where students understand and share with others their experience. On occasion we ask some of our students to return to QuantumCamp and work with us, mimicking the college experience.

What's in store for our assistants:

  • Assistants help the instructor in one of the courses that they have already taken.
  • Students will begin to learn the important skill of how to effectively communicate with both adults and their peers.
  • Assistants who perform well will receive an invaluable letter of reference from their advisor.
